Slide Show Sunday: Mother's Day

For those of you who don't have children yet, let me give you a little advice. Have your kids when the weather is warm.

I'm serious. As a mother of two winter ballerinas, I know what I'm talking about. If you have warm weather babies you won't have to clean your house only to have it destroyed two hours later by 20 wild birthday guests spilling juice boxes and smashing cake crumbs into your couch. You won't be stalked by a giant mouse as you eat overpriced pizza with 20 screeching party animals clawing at you for more tokens.

By having your children when the weather is beautiful, you can save yourself tons of money and continue to let your dust bunnies mate. If you're really smart and have summer babies, you can have a free party at the beach. Easy Peasy. Done.

Or if you have them in the spring you can do something really sweet like this...

It won't be free, but it will be a heck of a lot cheaper than paying for 20 kids to run around in the dark shooting lasers at each other. Where you can't take a single picture. Which will leave you without proof of what a great mom you were. And you'll wind up old and alone eating overpriced pizza on Mother's Day. Because your kids won't remember the $250 you spent on their parties each year.

No. Have babies in the spring so you can take funky pictures of their parties like this...

And earn bonus points by posting them on a blog like this...

Where people can see them. And will hopefully leave a comment. So your kids will have documentation of what a great mom you were.

And when they question you about why they're such great jugglers, you can remind them of this...

Yes. The mother who planned this birthday party at the strawberry field was genius. And since I have no pictures of the Little Ballerina's party at the germy indoor Jungle Gym, I'm going to tell her this was HER party. As soon as I learn how to photoshop her face over the real birthday girl's face in the candle blowing picture.

Oh, and one last bit of Mother's Day advice. Make sure you write a blog. And write posts about things that tickle your fancy. So when you open your gift on this special day, you will be pleasantly "surprised." (Thank you to my BSD and my ballerinas. I love him. But not as much as I love all of you. We need to give our new pet a name.)

Happy Mother's Day!

I have a name.

Your amazing gift's name is not to be Moby (that would be too obvious). It is, instead, to be:

But, you knew I'd say that, didn't you?

Haha! I will take your points into consideration. I was born in January and was always jealous of people who had pool parties for their birthdays. The benefit to having babies in the spring is you're also not fully pregnant in the heat of summer, yes?

LOVE the whale, he is so cute!

My babies are May, July, and September and I love it! My May baby was planned that way so I would have my summer off from teaching -- of course I ended up staying home so it didn't really matter -- but I loved not having to bundle up my newborn in hats and socks and layers upon layers! So I kept up the tradition ;)

I must say the swim club has saved me many a year for a last-minute bday party idea- easy AND fun. But the strawberry picking idea is novel and fantastic!
As far as a name for your new adorable pet- my choice is Ahab, just for a little irony. Does that runner actually match the new one in the hallway? You are too coordinated, Miss. Love it.

Oh you are too funny and oh so right! We have one summer kid and one winter kid. December 31st to be exact. So we did the indoor laser, games and pizza. Afterwards I needed a shower and a large drink! I think the pick your own strawberries is fantastic, can't wait to see the Photo shopped picture!

SS - LMAO! Yes, Dick is a great name for a whale. Your dad would be so proud! I bet he never had a pet whale to name Dick.

Lisa - Oh yes, good point. And if you wait until August you have the whole summer to have one of those adorable pregnant bellies in a swimsuit.

Deb- Ooohhh, Ahab gives Dick a run for the money. And good eye, girl. That runner in the picture is really just a cut off piece from the stairs I stuck under there so Ahab/Dick would show up better. I carry it around in the car so I can find pieces that would work with the colors.

Great post. I do have to point out that summer babies mean that BEFORE they are born, you are the fattest when it is the hottest. AND, I'm a June baby and never got to have parties because everyone was away on vacation. Or maybe that was just my mom's excuse...

So, what's in that whale?

Fawn - Cracking up. Yes, BUT you get to be the adorable-pregnant-lady-with-the-big-belly at the beach instead of the mom-with-the-big-belly you become after. And, I'm cracking up, I wondered if people would realize what he is. He's a butter dish.

That is a great idea for a birthday party! In fact, that may be the one kind of birthday party I might not mind going to...I'm sorry, am I the only one who dreads kids birthday parties?

Kim,
I love this post - too funny. I have one Spring birthday child (April 14) and one who is in season limbo (March 2). The year she was born it snowed the morning after her birth. I guess it's technically winter, but sometimes it's unseasonably warm. We can never predict. This year she had a pottery painting party for her 8th birthday. Fairly fun. My son requested the glow in the dark party this year. Not so fun for me, but the kids loved it!

Also, I thought I'd answer your questions (sorry I never know if I should respond on my own blog because I'm never sure people check back). No, I have never actually been to Circa Who although I've often been tempted to rent a UHaul and head down south. Love their stuff. Oh, and the Anthropologie birthday card just arrives because I have an "Anthro card" - one of those loyalty cards stores love for you to sign up for to keep tabs on you. But, it's worth for an occasional discount!

Sorry I just wrote a novella as a comment!

I have 1 summer and 1 winter baby, and I couldn't agree more!

I love the circus sign AND the whale butter dish.

Kim, that was great! You had me laughing out loud. I know I am a little late, but I hope you had a wonderful mother's day.

I have a couple winter babies, too. Then I have one summer one. It's funny, but my summer baby has more pics of her birthdays...and they are all outside! Wow! You really know what your talking about :)
