Old Wood, New Art, Happy Campers

I really should be working on my photo class project. But I don't want to go there. Too many missing pieces. And only two weeks of class left. Gives me a pit in my stomach. Need a photo of the Big Ballerina but the girl is never home when the sun is up. And trying to shoot without any source of natural light is worthless.

Case in point.

So instead I'll share our latest house project. The painting is all done. Larry has moved out. The new bedroom carpet is installed. And most everything is back in place. There is still a long list of things I want to make happen. But it all takes time. And money. So we progress at a snail's pace.

The Big Ballerina's bedroom really needed something on the walls. Something fun. Something large. Something beachy. Nothing I found in the stores appealed to me. And if it did. The price tag sent me running.

Luckily, BSD still has some free time. And some power tools. And some of those old pickets we used this summer to make our fish sticks with.

And earlier this week he turned a few of the pickets into a new piece of art for BB's bedroom.

I love it! BSD loves it. BB loves it. And most importantly, sock monkey loves it too. Oh, and the best part? The whole project cost about $10 for paint and hanging hardware.

Now I'm dreaming of some trim around the window. A cute rug next to the bed. And a fun chandelier to hang in the corner over her nightstand. BSD's not on board with the chandelier idea just yet. What do you think?

LOVE!!! You are so creative! You could open an etsy shop, with all your spare time and all:)

I know you say "ack" for the first picture...but how can you not love it?! I wonder how many moms actually have a picture of doing their daughter's hair? So sweet!
And that wood painting is PERFECT!! I love it! Pottery Barn should sell them!
Oh, and one last thing...I love the carpet in BB's room...can you tell me more about it?! Thanks!

It looks so good. What a great addition to the beachy room! While you are finding it hard to get photo stuff done I've stalled on the basement. Let's give each other 50% motivation to that we can get both done : )

Love it! What a great idea. So cute and I totally understand the to-do list, lack of time, funds, etc. Nonetheless, BB's room is coming together and the photo of you doing her hair is beautiful!

I love your style :)

That first pic is wonderful, Kim. Maybe not technically perfect, but it captures a very sweet moment. You'll treasure it later...and so will your daughter. xoxo

Okay Kim, I know you are a perfectionist, but I think that photo of you doing your daughter's hair in the mirror is PRICELESS. I love it. Maybe the lighting is not quite right in your eyes, but I think it's beautiful.

hey there, old friend - loooong time no see!! i've been back from my 2 weeks away for about 2 weeks now and somehow just haven't quite found the mojo to get my blogging engine restarted ... but i'm poking around to peek in on everyone else's and couldn't resist a big resounding YAY to that gorgeous one of a kind surf painting above the bed ... you could sell those for big $ up here, no joke - it's amazeballs, seriously ... and i'm also a huge YES to your chandelier/window trim/rug ideas ... GO FOR IT!! hope your April is off to a good start :)

Perfect perfect perfect. I love the colors. And such a fantastic art piece (I too have some fence boards left). You MUST have a chandelier or some kind of cool light. Ikea has some really mod white globe options. Everything is looking fantStic. Do you miss Larry? I bet he misses you.
