I'll Take a Big Gulp and Her Sunglasses

I have really been hating on the white sunglasses revival. When I see them all I can think of is scrunchies, Charlie's Angels and black rubber bracelets a la Madonna. The middle school girls in our area seem to be really embracing this trend. And it makes my eyes bleed.

But, today as I was getting my Big Gulp, I spied a woman rocking a pair. And she looked fab. Because you know 7-Eleven is where all the fashionistas hang out.

This woman wasn't wearing the Risky Business white Wayfarers that Drew and Fergie found at the bottom of their old high school backpacks.

No. She was wearing a large, round, 60's retro pair. Something like these...

And along with these cool vintage sunnies, she had on a French inspired striped tank over a plain white tank...

with a pair of slim navy capris ...

Her hair was white to match her glasses. Teased and wild. Statement-making.

She left a lasting impression on me.  A 60's Brigitte Bardot impression.
Now that's a look that deserves to be brought back to life. The white Wayfarers? Somebody pleeeease, send them back to the 80's where they belong.

Right on.

The 80's trends really need to stay tucked neatly away in the past.

I would have felt like such a scrub next to the gal you are describing...

I'm a NOT a fan of the white sunglasses...they look ridiculous even on Nicole Richie!

I wish I could send you a few old windows...people sell them all over in our area!

I completely agree. I was on you tube yesterday digging up old Duran Duran videos. I watched them with my teenage daughter. What were we thinking!?! My daughter said we were weird...but the funny thing is she is starting to copy that same look. The skirt with leggings, large sweaters with belts. Yes that is from the 80s. But she doesn't believe me.

Thanks for the fun post. :)

She sounds like she was spot on with her interpretation of the trend.

My rule... if you are old enough to have worn a trend the first time around, don't attempt it the second! So definitely no acid wash jeans in this household!!

Love your blog! :) Hazel

Hi Kim ... geez, 21 comments, you've hit a nerve for sure ;-) I too had white sunglasses in the mid-80's - which is exactly why I don't think I could ever go back to them. I'd feel like I was there again, in fact I'm hearing Janet Jackson's "Nasty Boys" in my head just thinking about white sunglasses!! But kudos to the 7-11 gal you saw who rocked them so well - I would have done a double take too!

btw, thx for the b'day wishes for my 'baby' today ... *sob* - another year ...
