The Joy of Love: Gift From the Heart

BSD is the best gift giver. Not only is he extremely generous, but he puts so much effort into finding the perfect gift. And then he presents it in a special way. I remember one Valentine's Day after a romantic dinner, our server presented me with a little robin's egg blue box with a white ribbon. Yep, a coveted Tiffany's box. Inside was a gold heart locket. The locket now holds a picture of each of the ballerinas. I wear it often. The ballerinas love to open it and see their faces inside.

The most precious gift he ever gave me, though, was my Christmas gift about five years ago. We were searching the Electra site for a bicycle for the Big Ballerina's birthday. I clicked on this frilly, girly, limited-edition bicycle, and oohhed and ahhed over it for a minute before continuing on.

BSD tucked that moment away, and on Christmas morning I woke up to this under the tree...

I have to admit, I was a little irritated because we weren't supposed to spend any money on each other. I think we must have just spent a bundle on something for the house. We promised, "Nothing big."

But, I have so many wonderful memories wrapped up in this sweet cruiser. Every time I hop on I can't help but smile. Because BSD knew it would blow my socks off. And I feel loved.

For Valentine's Day this year, I WISH I could surprise BSD with this beauty. I know it would blow HIS socks off. Can't you just see him cruisin' to the beach in this little cutie?

With one of his retro longboards on top?

That Bronco is parked right along my daily route. I drive by it constantly. I don't know how many more times I can pass it without bringing it home.

what a guy. . .David is not so good at the gift thing, giving or receiving. . .one year I surprised him with a new trumpet (he had started playing again after many years and was using his old, high school trumpet)... I knew he would never buy it on his own. Lets just say that I ended up crying and not tears of joy, either:)

What a great bike! Let us know if you break down and buy the jeep :) It's so fun buying gifts that you know they'll love.

Kim, I also wanted to answer your question and let you know that I used spot metering with the photos on my last post. I never knew what it was until I watched the video....very helpful!

too bad i'll be skipping this assignment :-( Manbug has had 2 glimpses of greatness over 15 years, but overall has not done well in the gifting department ... on the other hand, this bike is INCREDIBLE!! Way to go BSD!! I have a black beach cruiser with red cherries painted all over it - we'd sure look cute riding together up and down coastal New England this summer - whatd'ya say?! What color bike should we get for swooper?!

You are so lucky Kim! My husband tries really hard in the give giving/suprising area...but it's just not his thing! I LOVE your bike! I have wanted a bike for about 10 years...I'm waiting for my son to learn how to ride so we can do that together. Unfortunately he has zero interest in learning to ride...he's too chicken!

Props to your man. My Mr. follows the same pattern. How do you think I felt this year with my 7D and iPad? Not expecting that at all. And that wasn't the first time he's done such things. When we were dating he surprised me with Springsteen tickets. I knew I was on to something good.

OK. That truck is just hot. I have a thing for old trucks. If *I* could choose any vehicle to drive, that would be it. I would support your splurge 110%.

OK, another coincidence to chalk up....I have a beach cruiser too. Not nearly as cute as yours, but a cruiser is my bike of choice and hubby surprised me with mine at Christmas several years ago. This is kind of wild! Do you remember where you ordered yours from? I just might need to get a new one. :o)

to answer your question about the father-daughter dance...our local catholic school puts on the dance every year as a fundraiser..the moms all pictch in decorating the gym, each brings in a batch of treats, $10 a ticket, and they take pictures for $5. Its a great fundraiser...and the girls look foward to it every year!

So sweet, Kim. Don't you love that your BSD is such a thoughtful guy? That bike is amazing. I wish I were as good in the gift-giving department as my husband but I think my talents must lie elsewhere. That vintage Bronco is amazing!! I would be so tempted too!

What a sweetie. Your bike is adorable....but I want the truck! That would be my perfect gift - something cute to haul around my thrift store finds and hardware store purchases. I think you've got a keeper in him.
