Queen Bees and Wannabes...

Many of you asked me about the book I'm reading.  Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman.

I have to chuckle.  Here's why...

9am Thursday, October 6th. Phone call with my friend, "M" ends with...

M: Hey, I'm going to book club today at 11am. Would you like to come? We're reading Queen Bees & Wannabes. Have you heard of it?

Me: Oh yeah! I think I've seen that one! A book club? How fun! But I haven't read the book.

M: That's OK. We're only reading two chapters at a time. We're only on the 3rd and 4th chapters.

Me: hmm...oh. Wow. I've never heard of a book club that meets AS you read the book. So do you pick a new book each month?

M: Well...we haven't gotten that far yet. We're really just reading this one.

Me: Oh. This sounds interesting. I've always wanted to be part of a book club. (visions of women and cocktails and snacks dancing around in my head) How great that you meet during the day. (Wow! These women really know how to live it up while their kids are at school!) I'm in!

And that is how I found myself reading a book subtitled "Helping your daughter survive cliques, boyfriends, and the new reality of Girl World" before I go to sleep at night. And facing sticky situations that are surely headed my way. Without the help of cocktails. Or snacks. To wash it down with.

From the little I've read so far. And the discussions I've now sat in on. I need help. I am not ready. I need to pull my head out of the sand. I need the remedial group to read this book with. To discuss these topics with. To hold my hand. The one without the cocktail in it.

I've read Little Bee and absolutely LOVED it. So good. It was actually a selection for my bookclub (which does, by the way, include cocktails and snacks...)

oh, what kind of a bookclub doesn't at least give ya a snack, so you can keep your mouth full of food so you don't have to talk out loud???

Hoping it all works out better than you expected. . .

After several months of failed attempts, my book club was renamed A Wine Club with a Reading Problem.

I had a bad experience with a book club. I'll say no more :) hope you enjoy your club more x

I quit my book club because they kept picking teenage science fiction books. I wanted to read something a little more grown up.

If your looking for a good book, "These is my Words" is wonderful. I had so many people tell me about it so I bought it and left it on my night stand for months. When I finally got into it, I couldn't put it down.

Let's read this one together...two pages = one drink = denial...two pages = drink = denial... As your suffering, working girl friend, I can only offer evenings and weekends, but I guarantee you'll have more fun. :)

No snacks?! That's the only reason I'd be in a book club! I read Little Bee last summer. I think I'm the only one in blogland that didn't really care for it. Oh well! Hope book club gets better!

I hope the bookclub turns out to be fun, and that you get some great tips to help in raising your daughter.

I have always wanted to be in a book club, but don't have any friends that read books. That's really sad now that I think about it! I have not read "Queen Bees & Wanna Bees", but I am scared of middle school which is fast approaching. Update us after you finish and let me know if I need to pull my head out of the sand too!

I want to be in your book club. I will bring the cocktails and a snack. We will laugh and gossip and complain and maybe cry a little.....then we will discuss the book if we get around to it.

The high school drama scares me too. Do boys have the drama as well? I'm sure they do and I know I'm not going to be ready for it at all.

I finished Little Bee not too long ago. Excellent book. Sounds like I really need to read the other one though.
